It all started 5 years ago when Javier Elizondo, our Founder, was walking on the Río Blanco forrest on its way to a waterfall. During his path he encountered some poachers going after the peccary and tapirs of the forest. It was there when he realized that this was happening in every single waterfall of Costa Rica, since its where animals go to get their water. Feelings of anger and sadness invaded him, but also determination and hope that something had to be made. It was there when he decided to start the first ever documentation of the biggest 120 waterfalls of our country, through photography. The final product of the documentation was the amazing book “Cataratas y Leyendas”, which is the first step towards conservation, since people will fall in love with Costa Rica and therefore urge to conserve it.
The second step to conserve the places is to employ the poachers as guides, that’s why he decided to create “The Waterfall Trail Company” in 2020, a company focused on creating boutique, hand-crafted experiences in the most amazing hided gems of Costa Rica. We will take you to non-touristy secluded places, were you will be giving back to the community develop just by being there and enjoying these places.
In 2019 we were chosen as part of the Airbnb Adventures pilot plan (which are experiences of 2 or more days). Were we offer our guests an experience where they only have to get in the car and enjoy, since everything else is covered. Here, we leave you the link of our star experience so that you can see the reviews of our past guests.
In December 2020, we launched our branding company named The Waterfall Trail Store, where we launched our first collection of shirts named “Sunset Volcanoes”.
